THE JOURNEY FROM AN OLD MOSQUE TO A NEW BEGINNING IN SSEKANYONYI

In a quiet corner of our community, where dusty paths met open skies, stood an orphanage filled with the laughter of children and the resilience of faith. These were children who had already lost so much, yet every day they held tightly to hope — hope in Allah, hope in kindness, and hope in a future brighter than their past.

But there was something deeply missing.

Our Muslim community had no proper mosque. The small structure we called a mosque was old, weak, and worn down by time. Its roof leaked when it rained, its walls trembled in strong winds, and its floor bore the scars of years without repair. Many times, we could not even fit inside. And so, prayers were often held under the shade of trees. When the sun was harsh, we bore it. When the rain fell, we scattered. When the winds blew, our rows broke apart.

Yet, even under those trees, the adhan still echoed. Even in the mud, foreheads still touched the ground in sujood. Because faith does not wait for comfort.

It was during these difficult days that Allah sent us a blessing in the form of the late Hajji Sulaiman Buyondo. Seeing the condition of both the mosque and the orphans, his heart was moved. He generously donated land where a proper mosque could be built and where the orphanage could grow in dignity and safety. His act of sadaqah jariyah became a seed planted for generations to benefit from.

The Prophet ﷺ said:

“When a person dies, his deeds come to an end except for three: ongoing charity, beneficial knowledge, or a righteous child who prays for him.” (Muslim)

Hajji Sulaiman Buyondo understood this deeply. His donation was not just land. It was a foundation for worship, for knowledge, and for the nurturing of orphans.

Allah says in the Qur’an:

“The mosques of Allah are only to be maintained by those who believe in Allah and the Last Day, establish prayer, give zakah, and fear none but Allah.”
(Surah At-Tawbah 9:18)

And we believed that maintaining this mosque was not just a construction project — it was an act of worship.

In 2021, with determination and tawakkul, we began fundraising to build a new mosque. A place where the orphans would pray in dignity. A place where the community could gather in unity. A place where rain would no longer interrupt sujood, and the heat would no longer scatter the rows of worshippers.

The Prophet ﷺ also said:

“Whoever builds a mosque for Allah, Allah will build for him a house like it in Paradise.” (Bukhari & Muslim)

Every brick laid, every bag of cement mixed, every coin donated became a step toward Jannah.

But the journey is not yet complete.

The mosque is still under construction. There is still much to accomplish — walls to raise, a roof to complete, floors to lay, and facilities to build so that the orphans and the entire Muslim community can have a dignified place of worship.

Allah reminds us:

“The example of those who spend their wealth in the way of Allah is like a seed of grain which grows seven ears; in every ear is a hundred grains.”
(Surah Al-Baqarah 2:261)

Today, we invite you to be part of this reward. To be part of this sadaqah jariyah. To be part of a story that will continue long after us.

Your donation is not just helping to build walls — it is building a sanctuary of prayer for orphans, a home of unity for a community, and a source of continuous reward for you in the Hereafter.

We kindly ask for your support. Contribute what you can. Share this cause. Make du‘a for us.

And may Allah make this mosque a witness for you on the Day when we will all need our good deeds the most.
